Diabetes Diet
Diabetes diet can greatly affect Type 1 Diabetes and Type 2 Diabetes. A diabetes diet can be used with Type 1 Diabetes and medications. Type 2 Diabetes care usually centers on just diet, although diabetes
medications may be involved.
A diabetes diet is necessary in Type 1 diabetes because the body
does not produce insulin, a hormone needed to remove glucose (a
type of sugar) from your bloodstream and move it into your cells where
it can be used for energy. This means that any foods you may eat that
break down into sugar …and everything that is not a protein, fat, oil,
nut or butter breaks down into some amount of the sugar called glucose…
and this sugar will remain in your bloodstream where it can cause many
health problems. It’s not just pure sugar we need to worry about in a diabetes diet, it’s
any food that breaks down into glucose.
A diet for diabetes is also necessary for Type 2 diabetes (the most common form of diabetes…also called insulin
resistance). It is a condition where you are probably producing enough
insulin but the cells of the body don’t accept the glucose the insulin
is bringing to them because you are probably eating too many foods that
break down into sugar. A diabetes diet low in foods that break down into glucose is also necessary for you.
