Cons of Digestive Advantage IBS
Digestive Advantage IBS is a mass marketed poorly thought out product using inferior ingredients. There are many disadvantages to Digestive Advantage IBS:
- First of all, Digestive Advantage IBS contains an artificial sweetener called aspartame (NutraSweet). Why? It's a pill you swallow. Why in the world would you use a sweetener in a product that is in your mouth for a spit second, especially one that is so controversial. Google "aspartame" or "Nutrasweet" along with the words "side effects" and you will find more controversy than you have time to read. No company concerned about your health should ever use ANY artificial sweetener.
*****Update May 2008: The manufacturer has made some changes to their product line. They have removed aspartame (NutraSweet) and in some of their products, replaced it with sucralose (Splenda) which is another artificial sweetener that has shown to be problematic despite the manufacturers contention that it is made just from sugar.....not exactly the full story. In other products, they have artificial colors. Tsk, tsk, why does something you swallow have to be sweet or have pretty colors?
- The manufacturer lists Lactobacillus in Digestive Advantage IBS. But which strain? Acidophilus, plantarum, salivarius, paracasei or any of the many others with substantial studies supporting their use? All strains of Lactobacillus are not created equal. Lactobacillus acidophilus designates the genus and species, but what about the specific strain used in the product? Without that information, Beware!
- The manufacturer does not list the number of millions or billions of organisms in each dose. Why not?
- The manufacturer clearly states that the product only offers relief as long as you take it. Who would want to take something forever when there are all natural alternatives that will eliminate your symptoms without having to take a pill forever? That's not a cure.
