Ischemic Colitis
Ischemic colitis, also known as ischemia colitis, is a sudden swelling of the inner lining of the colon. Ischemic colitis occurs when there is a temporary loss of blood flow to the colon.
Ischemic colitis symptoms may include abdominal pain, bright red blood in the stool, diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Ischemic colitis is normally associated with people over the age of 50 with a history of peripheral vascular disease.
Ischemic colitis may occur in people who have lost the overall health of their gastrointestinal system. Low blood pressure, constriction of blood supply feeding the colon or a blood clot may be the possible causes of ischemic colitis.
