Summary:
Lexapro side effects can be nervousness, headaches, sleep problems, nausea, diarrhea, heartburn, weight changes, dry mouth or ringing in your ears (tinnitis). Other Lexapro side effects can be far more serious.

Lexapro Side Effects

Lexapro side effects may require you to make sure to get emergency medical help if you experience any of these signs of an allergic reaction: skin rash or hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Contact your doctor promptly if you have any of the following side effects of Lexapro, especially if they are new symptoms or if they get worse: mood changes, anxiety, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, irritability, agitation, aggressiveness, severe restlessness, mania (mental and/ or physical hyperactivity), thoughts of suicide or hurting yourself.

Other serious Lexapro side effects include: seizures or convulsions, tremors, shivering, muscle stiffnerss or twitching, poor balance or coordination, confusion, sweating, fast heartbeat.

Less serious Lexapro side effects are: nervousness, restlessness, headaches, trouble concentrating, drowsiness, dizziness, sleep problems, nausea, diarrhea, heartburn, weight changes, descreased sex drive, impotence, difficulty having orgasm, dry mouth or ringing in your ears (tinnitis).

Lexapro is an antidepressant used to treat anxiety and major depression.  Lexapro is part of a group of drugs called selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRIs) that positively affect serotonin levels in the brain.  By preventing the "re-uptake" of serotonin (the removal of serotonin from the body) Lexapro preserves more for the body to use to maintain a patient's sense of well being.

Remember that all medications/drugs can cause gastrointestinal symptoms and can be toxic to your liver.
