Lower back pain seems to happen to everyone at some time during their life. Lower back pain usually goes away, but there are a few treatments that can help your lower back pain go away more quickly.
Lower Back Pain
Lower back pain can happen to
anyone and usually a few times throughout your life. Main symptom? Pain….and it
can just require some pain medication or put you into bed for a few days. Stay
tuned and I’ll explain the main lower back pain causes and treatments you can
use for relief. I’m Dr. David Dahlman for DrDahlman.com.
Lower back pain causes
can be because of overuse or a specific strain or injury to muscles or
ligaments that surround the spine, or to discs between vertebra. Over time
muscle strain can lead to constant tension on other muscles, ligaments, bones,
and discs, making the back more prone to injury or re-injury. If you strain
muscles, you are likely to have other muscles compensate to protect the injured
area. This can lead to pain in completely different areas of the body. You can
experience left or right side lower back pain. Sometimes the pain is centrally
located or it can shoot down your legs.
The most common cause of lower
back pain is usually from improper lifting. Sometimes you may simply turn or
twist as you move throughout the day and then…Ooops! You realize that something
changed in your back.
In this case there are many
choices for lower back pain treatment. Most common are chiropractic care, pain
medication or physical therapy with exercise. Many people use a combination of
these lower back pain treatments.
It’s my opinion…even though
I’m a chiropractor…that the use of any of these treatments will allow you to
get back to normal in time. The difference is that with chiropractic care, you
can accelerate the healing process. Pain medication will make you feel better
while you heal. Physical therapy and exercise will strengthen the area. But
chiropractic care can, by moving or opening up the vertebra in the lower
back…it makes the brain re-think the positioning and tightness of any muscles
that are involved. Then, the body can loosen muscles on one side and tighten up
the muscles on the other side.
In more serious cases that
involve bulging or herniated discs, chiropractic care can be helpful in many
cases. A trained chiropractor has no problem diagnosing the condition and
applying proper conservative care to help. More serious cases can require the
attention of a surgeon.
