Manic Depression
Manic depression is a psychiatric disorder that describes a category of mood disorders. Also known as bipolar depression, it is defined by the presence of one or more episodes of abnormally elevated mood referred to as mania.
Manic depression patients who experience manic episodes also commonly experience depressive episodes and/or mania and depression at the same time. Bipolar depression is usually separated by periods of "normal" mood, but in some individuals, depression and mania may rapidly alternate, known as rapid cycling. Extreme manic episodes can sometimes lead to psychotic symptoms such as delusions and hallucinations.
Natural therapies focus on increasing overall health by addressing
diet, nutritional status with vitamin and mineral supplementation and
specific herbs, such as St. John's Wort which has been found to be
effective in mild to moderate depression.
