Nutrition
Nutrition is important…right? We all need nutrition. But…what does that actually mean? All kinds of information is in the media and online about nutrition, but how do you sort through it all and decide what you need to pay attention to? Let's see if I can help, stay tuned.
The dictionary tells us that nutrition is the science dealing with foods and their effects on health OR it's the process of absorbing nutrients from food and processing them in the body in order to be healthy and grow OR it's the minerals, vitamins, and other nourishing substances foods contain. For the average person, it's what do I eat or do today to get the nutrition I need so I can be healthy?
Nutrition obviously comes from things we eat or take in each day. We can easily separate what we ingest into food, drink and dietary supplements. With the exception of water, which is obviously necessary for life, everything we eat should contain nutrition.
But what about what YOU eat? Do you think you can get all the nutrition you need from your diet? What's your plan? Eat anything you want and just figure you're getting what you need? Eat in moderation? Eat organic? Low fat or low carb? Do you take supplements? Do you think you even need to take supplements or are they a waste of time? How about those studies that pop up in the news once in a while. You know, like Vitamin E found not to be effective …at something.
So, don't bother taking Vitamin E. What form of Vitamin E was tested? In what dose? Do the scientists, usually funded by pharmaceutical companies have a hidden agenda and really don't want to find anything positive about something natural? Usually that's the case. They can't patent natural substances, so why bother studying them.
I eat a predominately organic low carb diet and have for almost 35 years and when I test myself for levels of nutrients in my body, I am always lacking in something. That test helps me design proper nutrition for me…and it's done with supplements. Same with my patients. I've never seen a patient's test that was perfect.
So, here's what I suggest. Please click on "Vitamins" on the left side of DrDahlman.com and then read an article called "Vitamins for You" that discusses a "Basic Wellness Program" of vitamins and minerals. Please also click on "Nutrition Testing"on the left of www.DrDahlman.com and read the articles there if you are interested in learning more about the test I use to determine how my plan is working.
Don't trust you are eating correctly and getting all the nutrition you need. Put together a plan with some high quality dietary supplements and live as healthfully as possible
