Summary:
Postpartum depression (PPD, also called postnatal depression) is a form of clinical depression which can affect women, and less frequently men after childbirth. Post partum depression prevalence rates among women range from 5% to 25%, but the actual prevalence rate is unclear.

Postpartum Depression
Postpartum depression occurs as a result of childbirth. Post partum depression is theorized to be caused by hormonal changes in the women's body shortly after giving birth and may be mild or severe.
Postpartum depression is related to baby or maternity blues which are a mild and transitory moodiness suffered by up to 80% of postnatal women (and in some cases fathers who also suffer from the baby blues and/or postpartum depression).
Post partum depression can occur anytime in the first year after birth and symptoms may include:
- Sadness
- Hopelessness
- Low self-esteem
- Guilt
- Sleep problems
- Eating problems
- Exhaustion
- Emptiness
Natural therapies found to be somewhat effective include:

- Increases in protein
- Increases in water intake
