Summary:
What is endoscopy is always asked by patients when told they will need the endoscopy procedure. Endoscopy sedation is also needed for a stomach endoscopy, but not for a pill endoscopy which is also known as a capsule endoscopy. The endoscopy procedure is also used for a small bowel endoscopy.

What is Endoscopy?
What is endoscopy may be the first question asked by a patient when told they will need an endoscopy procedure. Endoscopy definition is a looking inside the body for medical reasons using an instrument called an endoscope. Endoscopy can also refer to using a pill endoscopy or a capsule endoscopy.
Endoscopy is an invasive procedure that allows sight of tissue on the interior surfaces of the body. Classic endoscopy uses a flexible tube that is inserted into the body and requires some endoscopy sedation to alleviate any discomfort the patient may experience.
Pill Endoscopy
New technology uses a pill endoscopy or capsule endoscopy which is a small camera that is swallowed and transmits images to a computer. Pill endoscopy allows for a small bowel endoscopy as well as other arts of the bowels.
Many patients who require the endoscopy procedure are obviously complaining about some type of gastrointestinal problem. Though the endoscopy procedure can diagnose any condition that it can see, the underlying problem may be an overall lack of health in the gastrointestinal system itself that shows more prominently as something visible in the throat, stomach or bowels.
Endoscopy will identify areas of inflammation, ulceration or cancer. Regardless of the diagnosis, treatment to restore health and balance to the GI tract along with dietary changes may be helpful. Many of the endoscopy procedure patients also have GI tract concerns that may be best diagnosed as Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) or Crohn's Disease or some form of Colitis.
Whether you do or don't have these concerns, following Dr. Dahlman's Irritable Bowel
Syndrome (IBS) report will be valuable to truly restore balance to your
