What is Fistula?

Summary:
A fistula is an abnormal passageway between two organs that do not normally connect. Usual fistula treatment is fistula surgery or fistula repair. The main fistulas of interest to this website are enterocutaneous fistula and anorectal fistula (fistula in ano).

What is Fistula?
A fistula occurs between two parts of the body that should not have any connection. It is abnormal and causes the person severe health problems.
A fistula occurs not regularly, but commonly in patients who also suffer from Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) like Crohn's Disease and Colitis.
Fistula Treatment
Fistula treatment is the same treatment as traditional medicine uses for IBD: anti-inflammatory medications like prednisone, Colazol, Asacol, 6MP, Methotrexate, Imuran, Pentasa and Rawasa.
Fistula surgery occurs in many patients as the severity of the fistula advances.
There is hope for fistulas as a more natural and successful fistula treatment for fistula repair and healing is available and Dr. Dahlman has seen quite a bit of success as the bowel heals, so does the fistula.
