Yeast Treatment

Summary:
Yeast treatment ranges from prescription medications, creams, suppositories and all natural herbs and probiotics. Deciding which yeast treatment depends on the severity of the yeast infection and the success of any previous yeast treatments.

Yeast Treatment

Prescription Medications

Over-the-counter medications and prescriptions can be used to fight a yeast infection. There are a wide variety of yeast infection treatment products available at the drug store. The most common medication is Fluconazole and can be prescribed by your doctor.

Natural Yeast Treatment

The best natural treatment to maintain proper levels of bacteria and yeast involves the use of some natural supplements and an "Anti-Yeast Diet". The main supplements to make up a yeast treatment are garlic, probiotics (acidophilus and bifidus) and tinctures of mushroom. Available at Dr. Dahlman's online store, the product names are :

  • Super Garlic            Take 2 tablets 3 times a day.
  • Ultra Flora DF         Take 1 tablet twice a day.
  • Mycoferon               Take 10 drops in a small glass of water. If you have thrush, hold in the mouth for about 1 minute.

Anti-Yeast Diet

In addition to using all natural supplements to kill the yeast organisms, we also need to starve them of their favorite foods.  The yeast organisms seem to thrive on certain foods.  During the time you are using the all natural supplements to eliminate the yeast overgrowth, we will follow a specific diet to assist in their elimination.  You will fail to eliminate them if you don’t eliminate these foods from your diet.

There are many variations of the “anti-yeast diet”.  The rules that you are about to read are the simplest combination that I have found effective.  This is just for now, just for the next month while we take the all natural supplements.  As soon as your symptoms are gone, you can forget about these rules.

The foods you must stay away from are all fruit, no added sugar or anything sweet (we are talking about added sugars, not the naturally occurring ones found in food), no gluten containing foods and no fermented foods.

Quick tip:  A way to avoid a vaginal yeast infection after taking a course of antibiotics is to take beneficial bacteria orally and/or to douche with them. Open one capsule of the Ultra Flora DF mentioned above into a glass of water and douche with this formula in the morning and again at bedtime for a couple of days.  You can do it everyday you’re on the antibiotic, wait till you’re done with the antibiotic and then do it for a couple of days, it’s your call as to the best method.  There’s no exact way.  Figure out what works best for you.
